I accidentally folded this piece of paper, oops, hence the lines. Still it's nice. It shows a painting by Frenchman Albert Marquet (1875 -1947) done in 1916 or '18, depending on where you look it up. It's also called different names but generally titled "The Terrace in L'Estaque" which was in a part of Marseille. First I could not make out what was floating in the distance : a huge snake at Loch Ness or what? No, merely a super long jetty/pier is dividing the Mediterranean Sea. My paper depiction is lousy of course, but when I googled L'Estaque on the maps the jetty is still there in front of Plage de L'estaque and the little harbor though I could not find such stairs. Marquet took a nice view from above and really got the light right. And here again is an artist I had not yet seen in museums. Checking out his works on www.meisterdrucke.de (prints for order, no it's not my site), I was amazed at the diversity of his paintings: landscapes, nudes, different towns all over Europe, window views, all very simply done but distinct. Too bad I don't have more of him.
